4th - 8th April

As part of healthy living week in school last week, reception class took part in learning cheerleading. It was so much fun! We learnt how to use pom poms and we made up our own chant. Have a look below at the photos of us cheerleading!

We were also very busy last week making Easter cards and nests and we hope you have enjoyed them!

Next term in reception class our topic will be 'The garden centre' in which the children will be learning about how plants grow and they will be growing their own plants and vegetables in our outdoor area. If you have the opportunity to visit a garden centre over the Easter holidays please take your child/ren with you.

Bear Hunt!

In reception class this week silly Sedgebear went missing! We looked everywhere in class, but he was nowhere to be seen! So we decided we had to go on our own class bear hunt to find him! We used some clues that Sedgebear had left behind and ventured out of class to look for him. Take a look below at the photos to see where we went on our bear hunt.

14th - 18th March

Last week we learnt the story 'We're going on a bear hunt'. We have enjoyed retelling the story using actions and have produced some beautiful story maps. We thought about the different physical features in the story (long wavy grass, deep cold river, thick oozy mud, big dark forest, swirling whirling snowstorm and the narrow gloomy cave). We then collected grass, mud, soil and stones to put in our 'bear hunt tray' and we've had lots of fun using it to retell the story!

7th - 11th March

Pancake day

On tuesday morning we had a pancake race! It was really difficult to flip the pancakes without them landing on the ground, but it was so much fun! In the afternoon the children made their own pancakes and ate them with lemon and sugar, yummy! Take a look below at some of the photos.

This week in class we have been learning about information books. We decided to make our own class information book about 'toys' and this week we have been busy taking photos of toys and writing descriptions about them on the computer. It is nearly finished so we will be able to share it with you soon!

We have also started learning about money this week in numeracy lessons. We have been thinking about what money is and what it's used for. We have made price tags for the toys in our Toy Shop and have been using pretend money to pay for them.

28th Feb - 4th March

Welcome back, I hope you've all had a lovely half term break! We have started our new topic this week 'Toys and Teddies' and have turned our role-play area into a Toy Shop. The children have already started having great fun in the toy shop and it has provided a range of learning experiences.

Multicultural week

Last week there were so many things going on for our multicultural week. On monday we had an African drum work shop. We learnt different rhythms in the work shop and later in the day all classes showed their performances to the rest of the school. It has to be said reception class were fantastic and everyone was very impressed!

On Tuesday Helli came in to speak to us about Christianity and on Wednesday Tasnim came in to talk about Islam.

During multicultural week we were also learning about Australia. We produced some beautiful aboriginal dot paintings, made some yummy fairy bread and made didgeridoos and boomerangs. Ava brought in a didgeridoo for us to have a look at and her brother Oliver kindly played it for us! Take a look below to see all the fun things we have been up to!

After half term we will be starting our new topic 'Toys and teddies'.

31st Jan - 4th Feb

This week we were learning the story of 'The Gingerbread Man'. We decided that it would be fun to make our own gingerbread men biscuits, so on Monday we were busy writing shopping lists of all the ingredients we would need. On Tuesday we made our gingerbread men and they were absolutely delicious!!! After we made our (very yummy) gingerbread men we thought about why it was important to use a recipe and then see if we could sequence the gingerbread recipe in the correct order.

For the last 2 weeks we have been busy preparing for and learning about Chinese New Year. So on Thursday we were able to celebrate the start of Chinese New Year by having a Chinese New Year party! We paraded our Chinese dragons that we had made around the playground and played music, it was so much fun! After we were able to try out some Chinese cuisine, which was very yummy indeed!
