15th - 19th November

This week we celebrated Children in Need day and the children dressed up in fancy dress. We had lots of fun and the best bit was watching Mrs Hickey and Mrs Beasley dancing the YMCA with the other teachers. It was very funny and we got to join in! We raised lots of money for children in need! We said goodbye to Mrs Hickey on Friday as she goes on maternity leave and has her baby. Mrs Hickey has enjoyed the first term with the children and will miss them all!! Mrs Hickey hopes the children have lots of fun in the run up to Christmas and enjoy performing in their first nativity!

Police day!

Today has been such an exciting day! We've had PCSO Simon come in and speak to us about how the police help us. He talked to us about the different roles that the police have and showed us the different uniforms they wear. He even brought in a police car to show us!

We found the flashing lights!
We all tried to fit in the police car!

It has been a busy and tiering day, but it has been lots of fun!

8th - 12th November

Last week we were learning about how fire-fighters help us. We set the role-play area up as a fire station and had good fun pretending to put fires out! We also learnt about fire safety and how we can stay safe in our homes.

Also just to remind you that it is Mrs Hickey's last day on Friday!

2nd - 5th November

Last week we were learning all about Bonfire night. We found out why we celebrate Bonfire night and how we can keep ourselves and others safe when watching fireworks. We also made some beautiful firework pictures using florescent paint, string and glitter.

Take a look at some of them!

Charlie H and Charlie L are making their firework paintings with Mrs King.

Some of the fantastic firework paintings!

In numeracy we have started learning about shapes. The children became 'Shape detectives' and went around school looking for different shapes. Have a look below at some of the shapes they found. The children have taken these photos themselves by using a digital camera.

Connor has found a cone.

Eddie noticed that a tyre is a 'circle'.

Gracie spotted a triangle, can you see it in the photo?

Max spotted a square.

Enjoy the rest of your week!

Welcome back!

Welcome back! We hope you've had a lovely half term break. We have a very busy and exciting term ahead of us! Our new topic this term is 'People who help us', in which we will learn about the different roles people have to help us in our everyday lives. We will learn about Fire-fighters, Police officers, Dentists, Post workers and many other people that help us. In the last two weeks of term leading up to Christmas, we will be doing lots of Christmas related activities and even set up the role-play area as Santa's Grotto!

We can't wait!

Harvest festival

This week the children have been celebrating the Harvest festival. We have talked about why we celebrate Harvest and drawn pictures of our favourite fruits/vegetables that we are thankful to God for. We sang songs about Autumn and made pumpkin soup in our water tray! The children also used leaves and printing of fruits to create lovely Autumnal pictures. On Friday we had our Harvest festival assembly and we enjoyed taking part and singing with the whole school. For those who were able to attend I’m sure you will agree that the children sang beautifully and confidently in their performance at Sedgberrow school!

We look forward to our open morning next week when you will be able to see our lovely displays and share a part of our morning in Reception.

27th September - 1st October

Well it has been another busy and fun week in the reception class. On Wednesday we had a fantastic time with Mrs B for European Day of Languages and everyone looked amazing in their European costumes! We have also learnt 4 new sounds in phonics and have been busy practising writing the letters using paint, sand, whiteboards and even toothpaste! The children have each done a self-portrait using oil pastels, these will be displayed shortly. I have to say parents, I think we may have some budding artists in the class! The children have been set homework to practise putting on their shoes and socks independently, so parents please encourage your child to do so.

Enjoy the weekend!

European Day of Languages

We’ve had a fabulous time today for European Day of Languages. In reception class we covered France. We showed pictures of famous French landmarks. We were very impressed that some children recognised the Arc de Triomphe and the Eiffel Tower. We even had a conversation about the Battle of Waterloo as one child had recently seen video footage of it! We talked about French food and tasted brioche. The best part of the session was performing the can-can.  The children loved it – through the internet we were able to show the meerkats from Meerkat Manor doing the can-can. Great fun!

20th-24th September

All week we have been busy preparing Sedgebear's birthday party! We have been writing invitations, making party hats, designing cards and making decorations. We also made food for the party using the play dough and even baked some cakes! This afternoon we had the party and had lots of fun playing party games and eating the yummy cakes we baked.

Sam L is mixing the cake mixture

Kyra is beating the eggs

We have also started phonics this week, so the children have taken their sound cards home with them. Please encourage your child to practise these regularly.

Have a lovely weekend!

Last week in reception class we were learning all about babies! Mrs Griffiths (Macy's mum) very kindly brought in baby Tallulah for us to meet. We asked Mrs Griffiths lots of questions about baby Tallulah to find out how young babies are cared for. Although Tallulah was crying because she was feeling hungry, some of us had the opportunity to have a little cuddle with her!
