Marble Treat Day

The children have made an excellent start at school and have filled the marble jar. The children decided that they would like to bake some cakes for their treat, so they have had a busy morning baking cakes!

They were really yummy!

Autumn walk

We went on an autumn walk around school and in the forest area looking for signs of autumn. When we got back to class we decided that we wanted to make a treee collage using some of the natural materials that we found on our walk. We think it looks wonderful!

Pumpkin Soup

Today we listened to the story 'Pumpkin Soup' and did some super writing about the story. We went outside and made pretend pumpkin soup in the water tray, it was really fun! We also collaged pictures of pumpkins using different seeds and had a go at drawing a pumpkin using pastels. We also learnt some facts about pumpkins.

 Did you know?
  • Pumpkins are usually orange but can sometimes be yellow, white, green or red.
  • The name pumpkin comes from the Greek word ‘pepon’, meaning ‘large melon’
  • Pumpkins have thick shells which contain pulp and seeds.
  • Pumpkins are not vegetables, they are a fruit (they contain seeds)
  • Pumpkins are usually shaped like a sphere (ball).

Healthy teeth

We had some visitors in Reception Class this week! Anna and Amy are dental nurses and they came in to talk to us about how to look after our teeth. They told us that it is really important that we brush our teeth twice a day, once in the morning (after breakfast) and just before bed. They brought in Alexander the crocodile and his friends and we practised brushing their teeth. We even got to dress up as a dentist!

Repeating patterns

In maths we have been making repeating patterns. We have used pegs, shapes, animals, beads and we have even used fruit and vegetables to print a repeating pattern. Can you make a repeating pattern at home?
